Support to Local Area Development

Financial support of Rs 5.00 Lakhs for the construction of building for the Government primary Health Centre , Kumily.
An additional financial support of Rs 5.00 Lakhs has been given to Kumily Grama panchayath for the construction of building for the in-patient ward for the Government Primary Health Centre, Kumily.

KILA trainings :
Periyar Foundation has undertaken KILA trainings as the District Implementing Institution for Idukki as per the conditions stipulated in the MOU signed with KILA for the KILA-Capdeck training programme. Apart from facilitating the programme, it was an opportunity to sensitise the members and staff from the Local Self-government Institutions of the Idukki District on the conservation issues of the landscape. A total of 76 trainings were conducted with the participation of 3625 persons.

Support from Kumily Grama Panchayath:
Under the institutional patronage of Periyar Foundation and Periyar East Confederation Ecodevelopment Committees were identified as implementing agencies for the construction of the houses for the tribals allotted by the tribal department through the Grama Panchayath, Kumily. A total of 12 new houses were constructed for the tribals living along the fringes Periyar Tiger Reserve under the supervisory control of Periyar Foundation. An amount of Rs 9.00 Lakhs  was thus utilized  and an additional amount of Rs 1,05,372 has been spent from the CDF of the Mannakkudy Ecodevelopment Committees for ensuring the quality of the construction.

Similarly 190 toilets were constructed in the tribal settlements within the limits of Mannakkudy I , II & III and Paliakkudy EDCs by the Kumily Panchayath with the additional support of Rs.3,80,000/- from the CDF of the EDCs. These achievements were also instrumental for the Kumily Grama Panchayath to win the National recognition

Technical support to Kumily Grama Panchayath:
Periyar Foundation has supported Kumily Grama Panchayath in the form of technical inputs through contracted professionals in Green Kumily, Green Kumily campaigns. Also supports were extended for the formulation of several projects regarding development of infra structure in housing, drinking water and electrification sectors.

Improvement of Community Based Ecotourism Programmes and Modernisation of interpretation with the financial support of Tourism Department, Govt of Kerala:
Periyar Foundation continued the implementation of the programmes undertaken with the financial support of Tourism Department. The final phase of the expansion of Bamboo Groves has been completed and made fully operational for conducting national and international level training programmes. The modernization of the interpretation is in the final stages of completion. The process for the procurement of two high capacity boats with the financial support from Dept. of Tourism is also in progress.

Actvities of East and West confederations of EDCs:
The confederations of the EDCs began to play a more active role during the reporting period. Some of the activities undertaken by the confederations are listed below;
