Terms of Reference for appointment of a Sociologist Foundation on Contract basis
Periyar Tiger Reserve is one of the well-known Tiger Reserve in India and the pride of Kerala. An
externally aided project called The India Eco Development Project, funded by the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility was implemented in the Tiger Reserve from 1996 onwards. The basic objective of the project was to reduce the impact of local people on forests by providing alternate and sustainable employment and involves them in forest protection activities. As part of the programme a total of 72 Ecodevelopment Committees have been formed during the project period. Eventhough, the funding support from the World Bank for the project has been stopped by June 2004, the activities are still being continued with the technical and financial support of Periyar Foundation.
In the above light, the 6th Governing Body held on 5th May 2008 decided to hire services of a Sociologist
on contract basis. The following are the major tasks to be performed by the candidate during the
contract period.
Tasks to be carried out:
- To impart the PRA training to the microplanning teams.
- To act as a team leader for the microplanning team.
- To prepare and revisit microplans.
- To analyze socio-economic changes among the members under the umbrella of EDCs.
- To impart training to staff & EDC members in social aspects.
- To periodically evaluate and assess the Ecodevelopment Programme in terms of social and economical changes.
- To study and document the social and economical changes among the members of EDCs.
- To constantly monitor and evaluate the functioning SAPP EDC, pilgrim management, etc during the pilgrim season at Sabarimala.
- To prepare and submit projects related to social aspects to external agencies
- Any other duty assigned by Executive Director and Member Secretary, Periyar Foundation.
Essential Qualification :
Men with Master Degree in Social Work / Sociology with minimum 55% marks.
Experience :
The candidates who apply should have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the relevant field.
Monthly remuneration :
Rs. 15,000/- per month along with TA/DA as per norms of Kerala Service Rules.
Contract Period : The contract period will initially be for a period of 2 years and renewal
will be decided by the Executive Committee based on the performance.

harsh environment should only apply. The screening for the post will be carried out by the authorities concerned and decided. The final decision for the appointment lies with the Executive Committee and the Governing Body of Periyar Foundation.
